The single comparator method for achieving multielement analysis of ai
rborne particulates is adopted after being modified with the incorpora
tion of infinite resonance integrals and the ratio of thermal to epith
ermal neutron flux at the activation site. Dust samples from ferro all
oy and lime kiln emission sources upon analysis indicated the major el
ements to be Fe, Cr, Cu, Zn, Ba, Sr, Rb, Ag, Hg, Th, amongst others. I
norganic soluble sulphates, nitrates and ammonium and the organics ext
ractable in benzene were estimated. Most of the aerosol mass seems to
comprise organic carbon. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
