I. Kuran et al., COMPARISON OF 4 DIFFERENT TYPES OF OSTEOTOMES FOR LATERAL OSTEOTOMY -A CADAVER STUDY, Aesthetic plastic surgery, 20(4), 1996, pp. 323-326
In this study, four different types of osteotomes were compared in lat
eral osteotomy of cosmetic rhinoplasty. I:or this purpose, 32 halves o
f 16 cadavers were used. Fracture line and mucosal injuries were evalu
ated. Statistical analyses were made to find out if there is any relat
ion between the type of osteotomes and the extent of injury. At the sa
me time bone thickness was measured on the osteotomy line. Wide osteot
omes have shown more mucosal injuries which is statistically significa
nt. Bone thickness does not exceed 3 mm at any point on the osteotomy
lines.
