Abstract
Conjunctival cytologic materials were taken from 84 eyes of postmenopa usal and 50 eyes of premenopausal women, and specimens were graded acc ording to the technique described by Nelson. Because the risk of conju nctival metaplasia in postmenopausal patients was greater than in prem enopausal patients, the cytologic gradings did not correlate with the Schirmer's test but were found to correlate statistically with the tea r break-up time.
