Abstract
The extraction behaviour of thorium(IV) from aqueous HNO3 and H2SO4 by the commercial extractants Cyanex 272, Cyanex 302. Cyanex 301 and PC- 88A (HR) in benzene has been studied. The extracted species are propos ed to be Th(NO3)(2)R(2) and ThSO(4)R(2) on the basis of slope analysis . The order of extraction efficiencies in the nitric acid medium is Cy anex 272 > PC-88A > Cyanex 302 > Cyanex 301 which is just reversed in the sulphuric acid medium. Mixtures of PC-88A, Cyanex 301 and Cyanex 2 72 with tri-n-butyl phosphate or di-n-octyl sulphoxide result in signi ficant synergism in the extraction process.
