Abstract
m-Hydroxycinnamic acid 7a or its methyl ester 7b has been subjected to phenolic oxidative coupling with phosphomolybdic acid on silica gel s upport leading to the formation of aryl-aryl coupled dimers 9 and 10, respectively which form the precursors for the synthesis of dibenzocyc looctadiene lignans.
