A single-phase YBa3Ti2O8.5 ceramic located in the BaO-rich corner of t
he BaO-Y2O3-TiO2 ternary system was synthesized. The dielectric proper
ties of this material (permittivity epsilon = 29, quality factor Q = 1
000) are reported here for the first time. Compositions with the BaO:Y
2O3:TiO2 ratio equal to 6:1:5 and 5:1:4 were also synthesized. The Y61
5 ceramic consists of two phases (YBa3Ti2O8.5 and BaTiO3), and the Y51
4 ceramic consists of three phases (YBa3Ti2O8.5, BaTiO3, and Y2TiO5).
