Measurement of quality of life (QoL) has become an increasingly import
ant area of research in health and social care. This study is an inves
tigation of the psychometric properties of two measures of quality of
life. The Life Experiences Checklist (LEG) and Lancashire Quality of L
ife Profile (LQOLP) were administered to a group of patients with a di
agnosis of schizophrenia and a group of NHS staff on two occasions. Te
st-retest reliability was reasonable and the internal consistency of t
he LQOLP was comparable with previous research. Measures of the intern
al consistency of the LEC were not convincing and possible reasons for
this are discussed. Scores on the LEC were significantly different fo
r the two groups while the LQOLP scores showed only a few group differ
ences.
