We study the diffuse emission in 13 far-ultraviolet images taken with
the FAUST telescope in order to constrain dust-scattering parameters a
nd search for extragalactic diffuse emission. The images cover more th
an 600 square degrees and sample both high and low galactic latitudes.
We compare the far-ultraviolet emission in these regions with 100 mu
m emission as measured by the Infrared Astronomical Satellite. We comp
are these 100 mu m measurements with those from the recent Diffuse Inf
rared Background Experiment and find that earlier measurements of the
Galactic FUV/IR ratio need substantial corrections. We interpret the F
UV emission using the Jura model for the light scattered from isolated
dust clouds and find values for the dust-scattering parameters in agr
eement with other studies. Using other analysis techniques, we are una
ble to constrain or detect significantly an extragalactic component to
the diffuse far-ultraviolet emission.
