Mp. Davies et al., LIVER-FUNCTION TESTS IN ADULTS WITH PLASMODIUM-FALCIPARUM INFECTION, European journal of gastroenterology & hepatology, 8(9), 1996, pp. 873-875
This study examines the levels of serum bilirubin, aspartate transamin
ase and alkaline phosphatase in adults with Plasmodium falciparum mala
ria. One hundred and six sets of liver function tests were obtained, a
nd 63 (59.4%) patients had one of the above indices elevated outside t
he local reference range. Serum bilirubin and aspartate transaminase w
ere relatively higher than alkaline phosphatase. Neither duration oi i
llness nor severity :vf infection showed any significant correlation w
ith any of the indices measured.
