A. Orlova, ON THE APPLIED STRESS DEPENDENCE OF THE SUBGRAIN SIZE, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 220(1-2), 1996, pp. 117-122
The present work studies the collection of experimental data from whic
h Raj and Pharr (Mate,. Sci. Eng., 81 (1986) 217) deduced a universal
empirical dependence of the subgrain size on the applied stress. In ac
cord with their result and some theoretical predictions the normalized
subgrain size d(s)/b was assumed to be proportional to G/sigma (G is
the shear modulus, b the Burgers vector length, sigma the applied stre
ss). The evaluated factor of proportionality K-1, having the value wit
hin the interval from 0.76 to 180 in the inspected data sets, was disc
ussed from the point of view of various factors which can influence th
e experimental data.
