The low-temperature behavior of the heat capacity, C-v, of carbon nano
tubes is estimated in order to address the question: How small must na
notubes be for C-v to be measurably different from that of bulk graphi
te? We predict that all single-walled tubes should have C-v proportion
al to T at sufficiently low temperature, even if the tubes are semicon
ducting. The range of temperature and tube radii for which this is exp
ected to be observable is shown to be well within current experimental
constraints. Multi-walled tubes are also discussed. Published by Else
