DEXTRAN RAFFINOSE DERIVATIVE ASSAY FOR AFFINITY-PURIFIED CORN COLEOPTILE LECTIN

Corn coleoptile lectin was isolated using lactose/agarose affinity chr omatograpy. The purified lectin, displacing a single band in polyacryl amide gel electrophoresis, was studied by a technique using dextran-ra ffinose biotinylated derivatives. Raffinose, lactose, lactulose, N-ace tyl-D-galactosamine, glucose, and L-fucose were used to measure the in hibition and binding activity of the lectin. The inhibition pattern ob tained agreed with previous hemagglutination inhibition data.
