Ma. Misdaq et C. Satif, A NEW CALCULATIONAL METHOD ADAPTED TO THE EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS FORDETERMINING THORIUM AND URANIUM CONTENTS IN GEOLOGICAL SAMPLES, Journal of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry, 198(1), 1995, pp. 179-189
The thorium to uranium ratio has been determined in different geologic
al samples by using a new theoretical method based on calculating the
probability for an emitted alpha-particle to reach and be registered o
n a solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD). Thorium as well as ura
nium contents of the samples studied have been determined by exploitin
g the track densities, due to the alpha-particles of the thorium and u
ranium series, registered on the CR-39 and LR-115 SSNTD. Results obtai
ned by this calculational method which does not need any calibration w
ere compared to data obtained by isotope dilution mass spectrometry. T
he influence of the granulation on the uranium content in sedimentary
phosphate samples has also been investigated.
