M. Pietrzak, GAMMA-RADIOLYSIS OF AQUEOUS-SOLUTION OF ACRYLIC AND POLYACRYLIC-ACID IN THE PRESENCE OF CU2+, Journal of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry, 198(1), 1995, pp. 191-202
The inhibitory action of cupric ions in the process of radiation polym
erization of acrylic acid (BA) in aqueous solution was investigated as
well as the reaction of the products of gamma radiolysis of water wit
h polyacrylic acid (PAA) in the presence of cupric ions. In the case o
f AA-CuSO4 and PAA-CuSO4 systems irradiated at 77 K an external protec
tive effect caused by copper ions was observed. This effect was connec
ted with the electron transfer between a radical and the Cu2+ ion. Dur
ing radiolysis of copper arcylate (A(2)Cu) and a system AA-A(2)Cu in a
queous solutions a protective effect exerted by copper ions was observ
ed which seemed to be connected with the dispersion of the absorbed ra
diation energy by the groups: copper-ligands.
