Abstract
The observed duration of the neutrino pulse from the Supernova 1987A m ay be used to constrain hypothetical long-range forces coupling neutri nos and galactic matter. If these forces are mediated by massless vect or bosons, this can lead to a drastic change in the usual MSW analysis for the Sun, depending on screening effects by the cosmic neutrino ba ckground, electrons, protons, or dark-matter particles accumulated ins ide the Sun.
