Abstract
The main problem in basic block coded modulation (BCM) is the large pa th multiplicity, and therefore maximum likelihood decoding is not poss ible. Sayegh (1986) proposed a suboptimal decoding method which decode s well only at high signal/noise ratios. The author proposes a two-sta ge decoding method which will improve error performance without too mu ch circuit complexity.
