Abstract
We argue that supersymmetric grand unification of gauge couplings is n ot incompatible with small alpha(s), even without large GUT-scale corr ections, if one relaxes a usual universal gaugino mass assumption. A c ommonly assumed relation M(2) similar or equal to <m((g))over tilde>)/ 3 is in gross contradiction with alpha(s) approximate to 0.11. Instead , a small alpha(s) favors M(2) much greater than <m((g))over tilde>). If this is indeed the case our observation casts doubt on another comm only used relation M(1) similar or equal to 0.5 M(2) which originates from the same constraint of a common gaugino mass at the GUT scale. On e firm prediction emerging within the small alpha(s) scenario with the unconstrained gaugino masses is the existence of a relatively light g luino below similar to 200 GeV.
