Abstract
Expectation values of the axial-vector currents are calculated within the semibosonized SU(3)-NJL model in the next to leading order of a 1/ N-c expansion. These 1/N-c corrections are shown to come from two dist inctive sources: (1) the anomalous part of the Euclidean effective act ion related to the Wess-Zumino term of the SU(3) Skyrme model and (2) the real, nonanomalous part which in this order of 1/N-c has no counte rpart within any local effective meson theory. The appearance of the t ype (2) terms is due to the time ordering of the collective operators entering the formulas for the axial-vector constants. They substantial ly improve the phenomenology of the model. The question of regularizat ion of these quantities is discussed. The analytic symmetry-breaking t erms in the strange quark mass play a minor role for g(A)((3)) and g(A )((0)). They are, however, important for g(A)((8)). Finally, the numer ical values for the g(A)'s, g(A)((0)) = 0.37, 9(A)((3)) = 1.38, and g( A)((8)) = 0.31, reproduce reasonably well the recent data from lepton scattering (g(A)((0)) = 0.31, g(A)((3)) = 1.26, and g(A)((8)) = 0.35).
