We have already completed the fabrication, installation, cabling, and
the piping of a 40 T class hybrid magnet system including a 15 MW DC p
ower supply (430 V x 35 kA), 15 MW water-cooling system (inlet tempera
tures below 10 degrees C, flow rates up to 800 t/h) helium liquefier/r
efrigerator, and a hybrid magnet composed of an outer superconducting
magnet and an inner resistive magnet. Their test operations are progre
ssing now. Except for the hybrid-mode test operations for the hybrid m
agnet system we have nearly completed all the other test operations. I
n this article we describe mainly the specifications of the hybrid mag
net, the DC power supplies, total control system, water-cooling system
, and the present situation of the test operation.
