The anisotropy of unusually large magnetostriction arising from flux p
inning for melt processing YBaCuO was investigated. The sample length
changes Delta L in the ab-plane when the magnetic field H is parallel
and perpendicular to the c-axis were measured. Large jumps of the magn
etostriction coefficient associated with flux jumps were found. Compli
cated deformation of the sample under remagnetization was observed.
