Abstract
In this paper, we discuss the complete integrability and allowed trans formations for the variable-coefficient Burgers (VCB) equations which come from shock waves and sound waves. It is shown that certain condit ions for which the variable-coefficient functions must satisfy for the VCB equations to pass the Painleve tests for complete integrability a re exactly the same as those in order that equations may be transforme d into the Burgers equation.
