We study the propagation of compact superheated solid in the large und
ercooling limit using the phase-field model. Below a critical undercoo
ling, the superheated solid decomposes into solid and liquid domains,
either in the form of liquid droplets or in periodic structures of con
centric rings. For the latter, a one-dimensional analysis provides an
excellent estimate for the propagation velocity and for the wavelength
. Both numerical and approximate analytical expressions are obtained.
