The temperature-concentration boundaries of the amorphous PMMA-solvent
systems (with n-butanol, n-hexanol, acetonitrile, and ethyl acetate)
were determined from experimental data and compared with the critical
parameters calculated within the framework of the Flory and Prigogine-
Patterson theories. The phase transitions in PMMA solutions exhibit c
ertain features (unusual shapes of the boundary curves, phase separati
on for the positive values of secondary virial coefficients, impossibi
lity to reach high degrees of solution supercooling), which are interp
reted on the basis of data concerning the formation of macromolecular
stereocomplexes in the systems studied.
