Abstract
A strong deviation from an exponential dependence of the tunnel curren t on the distance between two electrodes was observed when I(s) charac teristics of mechanically controllable break junctions of various mate rials were measured in He-4 and He-3 exchange gas. At 1.2 K, a two-lev el fluctuation of the tunnel resistance was observed in He-4, which ca n be explained to be caused by the tunneling of a helium atom between the electrodes.
