Dianionic mercury bis(tetrathiafulvalene dithiolate) complexes [NMe(4)
](2)[Hg(R(2)C(6)S(8))(2)] (R = Et or Bu) and the corresponding oxidise
d neutral complex [Hg(R(2)C(6)S(8))(2)] (R = Et) have been prepared. T
he crystal structure of [NMe(4)](2)[Hg(R(2)C(6)S(8))(2)] (R = Et) has
been determined and shows that the tetrathiafulvalene dithiolate units
are tetrahedrally co-ordinated around the central Hg atom. Cyclic vol
tammetry and ESR studies indicated that there is very little interacti
on between the two ligands. PI compressed pellet of the powdered neutr
al complex exhibited an electrical conductivity df 10(-5) S cm(-1) at
room temperature.
