HALOGENOGERMENES - EVIDENCE FOR THE FORMATION OF THE CHLORO-GERMENES OR FLUORO-GERMENES (ME(5)C(5))(X)GE=CR(2) (CR(2) EQUALS FLUORENYLIDENE)

The reaction of tert-butyllithium with dichloro- or ro-(pentamethylcyc lopentadienyl)(fluorenyl)germane led to the corresponding stable lithi o compounds which were characterized by reactions with various halides , trimethylsilyltriflate and methanol. The germenes (Me(5)C(5))(X)Ge=C R(2) (X = F or Cl, CR(2) = fluorenylidene) were obtained by the therma l defluorosilylation of Ge (C(5)Me(5))F(X)[C(SiMe(3))R(2)] and trapped in excellent yields by methanol, water or chloroform.
