Abstract
An adaptive, sliding control algorithm is developed for automated thro ttle control of an I.C. engine to be used in drive-by-H ire applicatio ns such as coordinated engine/transmission gear shiftings, traction co ntrol and autonomous vehicle control (NHS). The paper presents a new s liding control formulation that includes combustion transport delays a nd a simplified adapation law to account for slowly varying engine par ameters. The new technique is evaluated by computer simulation and lab oratory dynamometer tests.
