Abstract
In energy-balance climate models (EBM), differences in the reflectivit y of the earth's surface are commonly determined by means of a critica l temperature T-c for which it is assumed a snow-cover exists for T > T-c and is absent for T > T-c. A relation between the snow cover bound ary (SCB) and climatic variables is obtained on the basis of the theor y of similarity and dimension. It is shown that the location of the sn ow-cover boundary is determined not only by the temperature but also b y the air humidity.
