Two cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that show a sarcomatoid pattern wi
thin the jaw are described. Their primary origin in bone was demonstra
ted by radiologic studies. In one case, diagnosis was delayed because t
he clinical picture suggested inflammatory periodontal disease. In bot
h cases, the histologic picture was similar to that of a sarcomatoid n
eoplasm with intense stromal sclerosis; hemimandibulectomy was perform
ed in one case. The tumor contained cells with large, irregular, somet
imes lobulated nuclei and high mitotic activity, and perforated mandib
ular bone with infiltration into adjacent soft tissues. The lymphoid n
ature of these neoplasms was demonstrated by immunohistochemical and u
ltrastructural study.
