Abstract
The use of supported reagents as catalysts in liquid phase organic rea ctions can provide 'clean' alternatives to many traditional and enviro nmentally unacceptable reagents and catalysts. Mesoporous support mate rials can give the best balance between reactivity and selectivity. Su ccessful applications are diverse add include various acid-catalysed r eactions such as Friedel-Crafts reactions, halogenations and nitration s, selective oxidations and base-catalysed carbon-carbon bond forming reactions.
