Abstract
Serum and tissue lipid levels and zinc concentration in rabbits in who m egg yolk was used to induce atherosclerosis and zinc was supplemente d in the diet. Serological and tissue studies were done to assess the lipid levels and zinc concentration. It was found that zinc leads to s tatistically significant decrease of lipids (total cholesterol triglyc erides, low density lipoprotein cholesterol and very low density lipop rotein cholesterol) in the serum. Histopathological changes were also observed. This study confirms the hypolipidemic effect of zinc and its beneficial effect on the atherosclerosis.
