Abstract
From January to December 1993, 11 cases of cerebral malaria out of a t otal of 106 cases of malaria were admitted in the paediatric unit of t he Yaounde University Teaching Hospital. These 11 patients were compri sed of 6 boys and 5 girls aged 6 months to 10 years with a mean of 4.2 4 years. Convulsions and coma were the main clinical manifestation in 9 and 11 patients respectively. 10 patients had fever with 1 case of h yperpyrexia, whereas splenomegaly was noted in 6 patients and hepatome galy in 2. Parasitemia was between 0.02 and 4 %. Chemoprophylaxis was irregular in 2 patients and absent in 9. The average hospital stay was 5.5 days and no death was noted in our series.
