An analysis of momentum characteristics of the backward emitted shower
particles has been performed using interactions of 4.5 A GeV/c C-12 a
nd Si-28 With emulsion. These data have been compared with the corresp
onding ones in the forward hemisphere. The average values of momentum
and transverse momentum in the backward and forward hemisphere are (P-
b) = 182 +/- 11, (P-b) = 68 +/- 4, (P-f) = 720 +/- 10 and (P-l(f)) = 2
80 +/- 20, respectively. The transverse momentum distributions have be
en compared with Hagedorn's distribution and the corresponding tempera
tures have been deduced to be T-b = 27.2 +/- 1.6 and T-f = 112.0 +/- 5
.6. The momentum distribution of shower particles emitted in the backw
ard hemisphere has an exponential form with slope parameter T-0 = 46 M
eV/c.
