Abstract
False-twist-textured yarns are twist-lively, as are inadequately set o r inadequately stress-relaxed twisted staple-fibre or continuous-filam ent yarns, Because twist liveliness gives a snarling tendency in yarns and leads to spirality in plain-knitted fabrics, it is usually regard ed as a negative property, Measurement of twist liveliness or residual torque in a yam has been considered for a long time, but it has been customary to assess twist liveliness by indirect methods, Some methods for the direct measurement of yam-torque level have been described in the literature, but no quantitative data on yam-torque levels are ava ilable, In this paper, a direct and objective method for the measureme nt of yam torque, using yarns wound into a hank, is described, Torque levels in some false-twist-textured nylon hosiery yarns are measured u nder different tensile stresses.
