When La2CuO4 (or (La,Sr)(2)CuO4) is cooled below the orthorhombic-to-t
etragonal phase transition temperature, numerous changes of the phonon
response have been observed in neutron as well as in optical spectra.
A recently developed transferable potential model applied to the low-
T and high-T phases of La2CuO4 successfully explains many of the chang
es observed at T-s at least qualitatively, if not quantitatively.
