Abstract
A theory of the phonon spectrum of a normal-state tunnel junction is p resented. The relevant phonon emission processes as nonequilibrium pho non emission and Ohmic dissipation are taken into account. The derivat ives of the spectrum with respect to the bias voltage are calculated a nd are found to be in good agreement with recent experimental results. The influence of a high magnetic field on the phonon emission is also investigated.
