Abstract
The humic acid of a variety of paddy soil (kanhar type) was extracted and purified. The humates obtained by the alkali treatment df the prod uct were made to interact with minerologic oxide ores of selected meta ls (Fe, Mn, Cr, and Cu) in neutral conditions. The leachability of the respective metal ions by the humates, on molar basis, was found in th e following order : Cu>Fe>Cr>Mn. The environmental implications of the findings have been discussed.
