Sa. Brown et al., ELECTROMECHANICAL TESTING AND MODELING OF A PB(MG1 3NB2/3)O-3-PBTIO3-BATIO3 RELAXOR FERROELECTRIC/, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 79(9), 1996, pp. 2271-2282
Compressive prestress effects on the electrical and mechanical propert
ies of relaxer ferroelectric materials were studied as a function of t
emperature for several formulations of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3) O-3-PbTiO3-BaTiO
3 (PMN-PT-BT) ceramics. Experimentally measured polarization and strai
n, induced by an ac electric field, decreased as compressive stress in
creased, Effective Young's moduli also were measured under constant de
electric fields, A significant decrease in modulus was observed with
increasing field, The prestress and modulus experiments were modeled a
nalytically using a proposed relaxer ferroelectric constitutive law, I
n general, excellent agreement between the model and experiments was o
btained, indicating that the model accurately predicted the coupled be
havior of this relaxer ferroelectric material.
