Abstract
The stabilisation of the flow of molten steel during the continuous ca sting process by the alternating magnetic field is studied numerically using the customised computational fluid dynamics package FLUENT. It is found that this field can suppress the velocity of the molten steel below the meniscus, which in turn can lead to suppression of the entr apment of the mould powder at the metal surface. The electromagnetic l evel stabiliser is found to be more effective and flexible than the el ectromagnetic brake. The calculation described the actual phenomena wi th good accuracy.
