Abstract
In the framework of the Anderson-Newns model, using the approximation of circular diagrams, an expression is worked out that describes the m agnitude of charge transfer from transition metal to chemisorbed hydro gen atom, which is exact in a number of important limiting cases. The dependence of the charge transfer on parameters of transition metals o ccupying groups IV, V, and VI of the periodic table is explored. The c hange in the magnitude of charge transfer as a function of the metal n umber in the group is obtained, which is consistent with the experimen t.
