Abstract
The goal of the present work is the examination of maleic anhydride (M An) grafted impact-resistant polypropylene (T-PP), consisting of amorp hous rubber and semicrystalline matrix. A special instrument to separa te the rubber from the matrix is preparative temperature rising elutio n fractionation (TREF). Investigations of the isolated fractions permi t conclusions on the course of the grafting reaction and side reaction s during the modification. The present work has shown that the fractio nation is just as possible in the modified products as in the raw mate rial. It has also shown that a grafting reaction occurs mainly in the rubber phase of this two-phase polypropylene. During the grafting reac tion, only small degrees of radical degradation of the homopolymeric p olypropylene matrix could be detected. (C) 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc .
