The title compound, SeLBr [L(-) = diethyldithiocarbamate, (C2H5)(2)NCS
2-] is the first example of Se(II) complex featuring a dithiocarbamate
and a halide. It was obtained by the reaction of Se(IV)bromide with t
etraethylthiuram disulfide in a methanol solution containing hydrobrom
ic acid. The structure determination of the compound shows it to be po
lymeric with bromine being the bridging ligand. The crystals of SeLBr
are monoclinic with a = 10.391(3), b = 8.434(4), c = 12.030(2) Angstro
m, beta = 108.10(2)degrees, V = 1002.15 Angstrom(3), Z = 4 and space g
roup, P2(1)/n; R = 0.073, R(W) = 0.074.
