Abstract
Thiono-ester S-oxides, a rather neglected class of sulfines, can be re adily obtained by nucleophilic substitution of chlorine in chlorosulfi nes by sterically demanding phenolates and alcoholates. The reaction o ccurs with predominant retention of the configuration of the starting chlorosulfine.
