Abstract
Three types of inherent diagenetic sequences (IDS) of hardgrounds sepa rating subtidal facies have been reported in the Bajocian limestones o f the Seuil de Bourgogne. One type, including a meteoric diagenetic ph ase but no vadose phase before overlapping, is interpreted as the resu lt of marine ablation of exposure surfaces. Evidence is provided by th e vertical distribution pattern of phreatic freshwater cements below t he affected surfaces.
