In this paper, we consider the Dirac quantization of a symmetry-broken
electromagnetic field, corresponding to a model superconducting syste
m. We demonstrate that, in addition to the usual electric field energy
, the Hamiltonian contains a term due to the intrinsic self-capacitanc
e of the superconducting condensate. We then use this Hamiltonian to c
onstruct a distributed circuit model for superconducting quantum circu
its.
