Abstract
Unlike the ray theory, the WKB approximation far a field in the mode r epresentation is shown to completely describe the phenomenon of spatia lly periodic reformation of far insonification zones, which occurs at specific frequencies and depths of the transmitter and receiver in an abyssal ocean waveguide with an underwater sound channel opened to the surface and an acoustically transparent bottom.
