Jk. Macko et Gjc. Casanova, FIRST RECORD OF BRACHYLECITHUM-TRANSVERSOGENITALIS SILVESTRIS (SEMENOV, 1927) (DICROCOELIIDAE, TREMATODA) FROM THE SLOVAK-REPUBLIC, Helminthologia, 33(3), 1996, pp. 149-152
New data on the biometric and morphological variability of Brachylecit
hum transversogenitalis silvestris (Semenov, 1927) are presented after
examination of 33 stained specimens of this subspecies isolated in Sl
ovakia in the spring of 1962 from the host Caprimulgus europeus L. The
characteristic features include: 1) body size ranging 2.6-6.21 x 0.23
-0.66, 2) ventral sucker, 0.14-0.32 x 0.18-0.34 mm, relatively small t
o the trematode width in the region of anterior testis, 3) position of
transversally and longitudinally oval gonads, with ovary in most spec
imens lying in mid-portion of body. The need of clarifying the structu
re of digestive tract is discussed, which is indistinct in the dicroco
eliids obtained and vaguely, described in the literature. Without unde
rstanding the variability of taxa close to B. transversogenitalis silv
estris (Semenov) its frequent synonymy with B. transversogenitalis (La
yman, 1922) is disputable.
