Abstract
The seasonal activity of predatory carabids on the soil surface was ex amined in an unsprayed apple orchard in Sonoma County. Pterostichus be etles were the most active carabids in this orchard, comprising from 7 1-83% of the total number of individuals trapped during two consecutiv e growing seasons. Pterostichus (Dysidius) lustrans LeConte and Pteros tichus (Hypherpes) spp. were most active in June 1991 and June 1992, w hereas Pterostichus (Poecilus) cursitor LeConte were most active in Ju ly and August 1991 and in July 1992.
