DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL VIDEO CASSETTE TAP E-RECORDER FOR CONSUMER USE

We have developed a DVC system for consumer use based on the SD Specif ications approved by HD Digital VCR Conference. Band of digital record ing requires four times broader than that of analog recording. So we h ave developed high sensitivity head laminated by sendust thin films, s mall sized rotary transformer, and three types of broadband analog Bi- CMOS LSI. To realize 2.44 mu m(2)/bit, a playback waveform equalizer i s optimized and its LSI is developed. Besides, to realize LP mode (1.6 /mu m(2)/bit), original viterbi error correction system is studied and also its LSI is developed. As high compression method is needed for r ecording video signal, two LSIs for DCT, VLC, and quantization are dev eloped, and two LSIs for Reed Solomon error correction, recording sign al formatter, and digital modulator demodulator are developed. Adaptin g some kinds of elementary technology mentioned above, three types of Digital Viewcam have been commercialized since December in 1996.
