The long-term interaction of two unlike spirals is studied in the fram
ework of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction. Both repulsive and attract
ive interactions have been observed for different initial distances be
tween spirals. We describe how a spiral pair can evolve in three diffe
rent ways; namely, spirals attract each other, collide, and annihilate
; spirals repel each other and one of them dominates; and, finally, bo
th spirals coexist without dominance of one of them.
